We are thrilled to share that FortyGuard has been featured in a CNN article that highlights the growing challenge of urban heat and the innovative solutions we’re developing to address it.
Urban areas are particularly vulnerable to rising temperatures due to the urban heat island effect, where materials like concrete and asphalt trap heat, causing cities to be several degrees warmer than their surroundings. Combined with climate change, this effect has serious implications for public health, productivity, and quality of life—especially as billions more people are expected to move to cities in the coming decades.
The CNN article sheds light on how FortyGuard is tackling this challenge. By collecting 32 billion data points daily and using AI to model urban temperature dynamics, we provide actionable insights that help cities identify hotspots and implement effective cooling strategies. Our models account for variables like elevation, vegetation, and atmospheric conditions, offering a comprehensive view of how temperature impacts urban environments.
The article also highlights our work with Masdar City, where we helped pinpoint heat hotspots to inform the addition of trees and water features. It’s a prime example of how our technology can drive meaningful change for urban planners, policymakers, and developers.
Looking ahead, FortyGuard aims to integrate our temperature intelligence into broader platforms—such as real estate or mapping tools—to make this data accessible to residents, businesses, and governments alike. From helping runners plan cooler routes to aiding homebuyers in finding less heat-prone neighborhoods, the potential applications of this technology are vast.
We’re grateful to Amy Gunia and CNN for spotlighting this critical issue and for recognizing the importance of urban heat solutions. As the article notes, the demand for high-resolution urban temperature data is growing rapidly. At FortyGuard, we’re proud to be leading the way in providing this data and helping cities adapt to a warming world.
